Minutes away from the start of the entrance ceremony, returning students were greeting each others across the school buildings. On their classrooms or clubrooms, even on the hallways, they were happy to meet again their friends and wanted to catch up as soon as possible. Most of them had someone in particular in mind whom they wished see. A girl surrounded by an air of sophistication who walked with earnest towards a very special room. On the first day of school, a couple of classmates were lucky enough to run into her.
“Good morning, Aia-sama!”
Hearing her name, she briefly stopped and turned to those who called her, presenting a gracious smile.
“Good morning, girls. Did you two enjoy your vacation?”
She never ignores anyone, yet getting a reply from her is always a reason for excitement, which quickly shows on their blushing faces. One of her classmates wore glasses and had a shy expression. She spoke with sweet politeness.
“We did, Aia-sama, thank you for asking.”
The other had a tomboyish look and carefree attitude, but her caring words meant nothing but respect.
“Yes, we did... but we missed you!”
“Well then it’s a good thing the school year just started. I’ll be in your care,” as manners dictate, she bowed to the girls.
“Us too.”
“We’ll be in your care!”
Aia bids goodbye to her classmates and parts ways with them. The enthusiastic girl quickly expresses his emotions to her friend.
“She’s so beautiful, and elegant!”
“So diligent and kind.”
“Starting today she’s the new Vice President of the Student Council!”
“Aia-sama is truly this school’s…”
“... Princess!”
Happy with their encounter, the two girls made their way to the school gym.
Finally arriving at her destination, the young lady opened the door to the Student Council’s room and, like she expected, it wasn’t empty. A female student, was sitting behind a big desk.
“Good morning, President.”
She bowed again.
“Oh, Aia-chan. Welcome back. Please, have a seat.”
She did as her senior said.
“Are you ready to attend the entrance ceremony?”
“Of course I am, Aia-chan! I’m eager to meet the newest members of this our beloved school.”
“Yes, I thought you would say something like that. You are that kind of person after all, senpai.”
“It’s all thanks to you, Aia.”
The President got up from her chair. She was slightly taller than her underclassman. Her elegant looks were on par with those of Aia. With her arms behind her back, she walked and stood by the window.
“When I was a freshman, the Student Council was just a joke. Their members approved clubs and budgets like it was nothing. ‘Let’s all have fun in school’, was what they said. But I still joined them, in hopes of bringing a change.”
From there, she could spot the new students arriving accompanied by their families.
“My efforts granted me the position of Vice President on my second year, but it was not enough. At the very least, we managed to crush the rebellious ambitions of a single girl… and it was all thanks to you.”
She leaned towards her underclassman, gently touching her cheek, a gesture Aia did not reject.
“With your foreign charm and elegance we managed to open the eyes of the remaining members of the previous council, albeit for that one time. And now it belongs to us.”
Gazing upon her senior’s eyes, the young lady held her hand.
“We are the government. We rule over the students. We keep them in line. Right, senpai?”
“But we don’t want to turn them against us. A Kingdom must remain peaceful.”
“When a Queen must be ruthless, someone else has to be merciful.”
“The people need someone worthy of praise, whom they can always trust.”
Aia’s gentle facial expression faded into a sorrowful one… then quickly displayed a malicious grin.
“But none of them… no one can be trusted. Not unless I decide to.”
A feeling of uneasiness stroke the President, causing her sight to move away from Aia’s, and quick peek at the clock showed her that it was time for the entrance ceremony. They moved apart and she went back to her desk.
“Please, Aia-chan, go ahead. I’ll be right behind you.”
Following the command, she walked to the door.
“I’ll be waiting, senpai.”
With that, she got out of the room.
“Aia Barenthi, you are truly this school’s…”
On her way to the school gym, Aia met with another of her classmates. The sweet and gracious smile returned to her face.
“... Witch.”
