Kyoto PV: Mari

I checked the time on my phone just to confirm I was right for the third time. However, the door was closed and I could hear voices inside... Maybe I had misunderstood the correct time?

But suddenly, as I was thinking that, Jake bursted out of the room, and went through the hallway without even noticing me. I wondered where could he go in such a hurry, probably home since it seemed like it was about to rain, but, on the other hand, Jake wasn’t the type of person that cared about that. If I thought about that, we didn’t care much, I mean... the detective even appeared to like walking under the rain, and the president...

I felt his eyes looking at me through the open door. I checked the time again, did it mean now I was late? I bowed and went in.

The president was writing something, but I couldn’t see what. I went and picked up a book to entertain myself while I waited, but before I could open it, he asked me to sit down. I put the book back in the shelf, then did as he said. It was going to rain today, there was no doubt.

He then apologized for being busy, and asked me something. Are we all not upset about having to die because we never asked to live? or something like that. I wasn’t really upset about it, to begin with, and I told him that.

Death is happening anyway, there’s a lot to see and do instead of worrying about it.

He looked at me for a moment, thinking. He said he was sorry for asking such a random question, and then told me the reason I was cited there.

He said he was leaving soon, and I realized I hadn’t thought about this. It should have been obvious, because of the circumstances, but I guess our daily adventures and missions had become so natural that it seemed like everything would stay the same forever.

I promised him I was going to keep looking for him, and he told me, once again, that I wasn’t his older sister and I shouldn’t worry. I replied that I wasn’t asking him, and then he apologized.

I said we would also talk on the internet, and we also had Elysium, so it was really not that bad. He let me explain all of that in detail, then said that his absence wasn’t the only topic he wanted to discuss.

He told me he was looking for a replacement for himself, and I couldn’t believe he was considering me for the position. I declined, of course, explaining that I was best off taking care of the insides of the organization, my current position, than overseeing missions. It would have required a lot of work and time, too, and all my games weren’t going to play themselves.

I then told him about this massively multiplayer online game I was stuck in, because I didn’t have a good party, and the healer was never casting stuff, so it was basically a three men party, me being the tank, but what is a tank without heals? Nothing, that’s what it is.

That seemed to be somewhat confusing for him (must have been because the only time he played the game he just got to level four), so I thought it would be more interesting to tell him about another game.

However, as soon as I started explaining him about the different abilities of the characters of that game, he apologized and told me he had to talk with all the other members to decide about the succession-replacement-thing, so I had to leave. I told him he was rude, just to tease, and he began to apologize again, but stopped when I smiled and winked at him.

You apologize too much, I said as I walked out the Headquarters. Just to you, he said.
