The coyote. Everyone says that, compared to the wolf, or the dog, or the hyena, the coyote is a coward and a weak animal that would rather tuck his tail between his legs and run away, but that’s a lie. When people see an animal running away they call him a coward, they just ignore said animal and think they are stronger.

What they never see is that the coyote never runs away for real, he just hides until the chances of success are on his favor, only our ancestors could really see that, hence why he was a military icon. He’s smarter than many of the beasts and he can even outsmart humans, but few see this, because, when they turn their back to a fleeing coyote, they don’t live to tell the tale.

The so called trickster, the mighty king of the desert, it is the spirit of this fearsome animal that has guided me through my journey as a shaman, has taught me to wait, to be patient and use my brain instead of being a raging and charging idiot. I’ve learned so much like this, I’ve seen things that mere people have only dreamed of, and that’s why now most of others avoid me.

I don’t mind that, even when I’m young I’ve found comfort in solitude and I let only the Morning Star keep me company. However, even while I am comfortable in my own lair, in my Mojave, I keep myself alert, for, every now and then the sand begins to move with the wind, first it’s just a slight movement, but even the lightest movement can represent an upcoming storm.

While I prefer not to interfere in human stuff, at times it’s quite interesting to see them and, every now and then, I learn things that will be useful for later on. So, if a storm is coming, I will make sure to be there, one with the shadows and sand, and if the Mojave decides it, I might even let myself be seen.
