“In Arimyou Private School, student’s independence is heavily encouraged, and parents are made aware of this if they have any interest in enrolling their sons.”Both old and new students listened carefully to the words of the President of the Student Council. Even Dan, who was wearing the earphones of his battery-less music player, couldn’t concentrate on anything but his senpai’s words.
“Most of the staff spends their time with administrative affairs, while not in class. School activities are organized by us, the Student Council, and we designate specific clubs to carry them out. We implement the regulations supervised by the Discipline Committee. Club advisers oversee our actions, but rarely have a need to intervene.”
Tsukasa’s eyes sparkled with admiration. For her, the Student Council were the students who dedicated their time to help others, so it was her goal to join them.
“This Entrance Ceremony is no exception. As you can see, aside from a couple of teachers, there are only students present in this gym. Even the principal is absent. Parents are asked to wait on the school grounds while the ceremony is conducted.”
No matter how much she looked around, Asuka couldn’t spot her little sister’s location. Her height wasn’t helping her either. It was Rizel who finally pointed to her friend where her sibling was sitting.
“This is the kind of School you are joining today. We support each other. We are colleagues. We are friends. Welcome to Arimyou Private School!”
A round of applause began. Rizel gazed at the stage. From a chair behind the stand, Aia’s eyes met hers. The Vice President smiled and waved, a gesture the pink-haired girl did not return.
“Now, for your first time in here, let’s be—”
“So this is how your government works, Arimyou students!”
Everyone directed their attention to the second floor’s hallway, where a really loud voice came from. A teen with a wild hairdo which covered his right eye, wearing his school jacket like a cape, stood there with his arms crossed, looking down. His uniform was different from that of the institution he was currently at.
“Who’s there?”
“I don’t know.”
“What’s going on?”
His abrupt interruption and appearance made some of the newcomers nervous. Returning students remained calm. They seemed to be used to that kind of situation happening. The President tried to bring back composure.
“Don’t worry, my fellow students, everything is under control.”
She made a hand signal and the members of the Discipline Committee got on their way to the invader.
“You over there, how dare you interrupt the rite of passage of my beloved underclassmen? I command you to identify yourself!”
“Shut up, old hag!”
A cold wind blew, and everyone remained in silence. Old hag… Even the members of the Discipline Committee found it hard not to laugh.
“I’m here to speak with the slaves, I don’t give a damn about authority and their dogs!”
Now everyone had their full attention on the invader. He raised his head and his bangs moved, uncovering his eye. He was wearing an eye patch.
“I am the Captain Yume, and I have chosen this school to be my crew’s new lair!”
Those heading to capture him had already reached the second floor, but were slowly and carefully approaching to him.
“This is a call for those with the guts to stand up and rise above their oppressors. For those of you with the courage to break through every obstacle on your way just to do whatever the hell you want to do!”
He inhaled, opened his arms to the sides.
“The Pirates of the Round Table are wai—!”
And he got tackled. He tried to resist but was subdued by two students and a teacher. Still, he kept struggling, and was able to shout one last line.
“The Ocean of Stars is endless, and it belongs to no one! Therein lies true Freedom!”
They took him out of the school gym and closed the doors behind. Aia noticed that the President was almost choking with anger. She tried her best to calm her down but her upperclassman pushed her aside and resumed the ceremony.
“I apologize for the interruption. We’ll make sure to take more strict measures to prevent further incidents from disrupting the peace of our beloved school. For now, let’s try to leave this behind and proceed with the roll call.”
But it wasn’t that simple. The sensation was hard to describe for them. Some would say it was fear, but it also could’ve been excitement. A flame was ignited that day in some students, and it would keep on burning for the rest of the year.
He can’t be trusted.
Would he understand…?
Maybe he wants to help.
That was so awesome!
The Ocean of Stars…?
